Advertising Policy
TheSkillVault is free to read, and advertising is what pays for that: the writing, the editing and the cost of keeping the site running. This page explains how ads work on the site and how we keep them separate from our articles.
How the site is funded
We show ads served by third-party ad networks, such as Google. Some ads are picked based on the page you're reading. Others, where the law and your settings allow it, are based on your browsing activity. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain the cookies these networks use and how to switch off personalised ads.
Affiliate links
We do not have any affiliate partnerships at present. None of the links in our articles earn us a commission, and we aren't paid when you buy a product or sign up for a course we mention.
If that ever changes, we'll update this page first, and any affiliate link will be clearly labelled in the article where it appears.
Sponsored content
We don't publish sponsored articles at the moment. If we start, they'll be marked "Sponsored" at the top and held to the same standards of accuracy as everything else on the site.
Ads don't decide what we write
Our editors choose the topics and decide what goes into a guide. Advertisers can't pay to have an article written, changed, approved or taken down, and they don't see our work before it's published. Ads sit in their own spaces on the page, apart from the article text. There's more on this in our Editorial Policy.
Ads we don't accept
We decide where ads appear on our pages and can block or remove any ad. We don't knowingly allow ads that:
- make false or misleading promises, like guaranteed jobs, exam scores or income;
- sell fake degrees, bought certificates, essay-writing services or other ways to cheat;
- are illegal or deceptive, or promote gambling, adult content, tobacco, weapons or illicit drugs;
- demean people because of their race, religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability or where they come from;
- are designed to look like one of our articles.
Most ads are placed automatically by the networks, so now and then one that breaks these rules can slip through. When that happens, we want to hear about it.
An ad isn't a recommendation
Seeing an ad on TheSkillVault doesn't mean we recommend the company, course or product behind it. Please do your own checks before you sign up for anything or hand over money.
Reporting an ad, or advertising with us
If an ad looks misleading, offensive or broken, or you'd like to talk to us about advertising, please get in touch through our Contact Us page. A screenshot and the link of the page you were on help us find the ad quickly.
